No.  Minimum liability insurance coverage is included in all rates at no additional charge at all locations in Canada.

The liability limit for locations in Canada is 200,000.00 CAD Public Liability & Property Damage coverage per accident.

All vehicles are not to be driven on unpaved roads. (gravel, dirt, etc...)

Customers may inquire for additional information at time of rental.

Acceptance of the Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) reduces the renters and authorized additional drivers financial responsibility to between 250.00 CAD and 2500.00 CAD depending on car group confirmed, if the car is damaged or stolen while under rental contract. Using the vehicle in violation of any of the use restrictions listed on the rental agreement could void LDW and leave the renter fully responsible for any damage to the vehicle.

Partial Loss Damage Waiver (PDW) is available at certain rental locations to relieve the renter of the first $1,000 CAD of the loss of, or damage to, the Avis car.

All inquiries regarding PDW availability and cost should be referred to the rental location.

All Avis cars are not to be driven on unpaved roads (like gravel, dirt, etc.).

If LDW is not accepted, the customer is financially responsible for the full value of:

• Accident damage
• Glass damage
• Vandalism
• Theft of the car
• Stolen items such as radio, battery, etc.

Global insurance coverages are always subject to change. Please verify at time of rental.

Avis accepts most major credit cards as credit identification at the time of rental.

Accepted credit card list: Avis Charge Card, American Express, AT&T Capital, Diner's Club, Diner's Club Int'l, Discover, JCB, MasterCard, and Visa.

Some locations may not accept each of the referenced cards.

At the time of rental, a hold of $750.00 CAD or estimated rental charges plus 20%, whichever is greater, is placed on the credit card.

Debit cards are not accepted at time of rental as credit identification, however, they can be used at time of return to pay for the rental. You must have a honored charge card to qualify for rental. .

At the time of rental, the driver must present a valid drivers license in the drivers name.  All customers must also present a second form of ID. Please refer to the Additional Information topic for details.
Canada licenses required by issuing province to rent a vehicle are:  Manitoba requires Class 5 Full (F), New Brunswick requires Class 7 (level 2 only) and Class 5, Ontario requires Class G & G2 and all other provinces require Class 5.

Customers presenting a drivers license in a non-Roman alphabet must also present an International Driving Permit (IDP) in addition to their valid drivers license.

Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) and PAI-Plus are optional coverages the customer may purchase at the time of rental.

Personal Accident Insurance provides accidental death and medical expense benefits to the renter and all passengers in the Avis car.

Personal Accident Insurance Plus offers an Accidental Death and Dismemberment benefit.

PAI Plus offers an Accidental Death and Dismemberment Benefit of CAD 100,000 per accident for the renter and all passengers in the Avis vehicle.

Coverage for paralysis is CAD 100,000 for the renter and CAD 10,000 for each passenger.

PAI Plus also includes coverage for:

• Emergency transportation
• Emergency accomodations
• Road Hazard Service
• Towing
• Legal Defense
• Lost keys/remote
• Funeral Expenses

PAI Plus benefits described are payable in addition to any other insurance benefits.

Public liability insurance is in accordance with the insurance laws of the country.  Customer may inquire at the time of rental for additional information of the benefits, conditions and acceptance.

Note: Some credit cards provide insurance coverage, with certain limitations, as a benefit of using the card to rent vehicles.  The customer is advised to contact the card issuer before the rental.  Any waiver must be discussed directly with the location upon arrival.

The prices we give you for optional extras when you book will generally be the price you will pay. Exchange rates or other reasons beyond our control may alter prices.

I have small children, do you offer child seats?
Yes, we offer baby, infant, child and boosters seats. A baby seat is typically suitable for a child from birth to 12 months old and weighing no more than 13 kilos. An infant seat is typically suitable for a child aged 9 months to 4 years old and weighing between 9 and 18 kilos. A child seat is typically suitable for a child aged 4 to 11 years old and weighing between 15 and 36 kilos. A booster seat is typically suitable for a child aged 8 to 11 years old and weighing between 20 and 45 kilos.
In some rental locations, we may arrange for a third party to fit the seat for you. But remember, it is always your responsibility to check the seat is fitted correctly before you drive away.
Please note: In Spain, all children must normally use a child car seat until they are 12 years old or 135 cm tall.

How much are your child seats?
The fee for renting a seat will depend on where you are renting, but you can expect it to cost between 12.00 Euro and 25.00 Euro a day. If you rent the vehicle for more than 10 days, you will only be charged for a maximum of 10 days and get to use the seat for the duration of your rental, up to 28 days.
If the seat is damaged, lost or stolen, you will have to pay for a replacement. This is likely to cost between 200.00 Euro and 250.00 Euro on top of the hire fee. If you can show the damage or loss was not in any way your fault or due to your negligence, we will refund this cost to you.

 I am not familiar with the area; can I rent a GPS (satellite navigation system)?
Yes, Travel Companion Tablet - This provides a GPS service as well as other useful features you may need when travelling. - The fee for hiring Travel Companion Tablet to be between EUR 14.99 and 20.00 Euro a day. If you rent the vehicle for more than 14 days, you'll only be charged for a maximum of 14 days and get to use the device for the duration of your rental, up to 28 days.
If the Travel Companion Tablet is damaged, lost or stolen, you'll have to pay for a replacement. This is likely to cost from EUR 180.00 on top of the hire fee. If you can show the damage or loss was not in any way your fault or due to your negligence, we will refund this cost to you. If any Travel Companion Tablet accessories are damaged, lost or stolen, you'll have to pay for a replacement. This is likely to cost from EUR 5.00 and EUR 150.00 on top of the hire fee. Yes, Travel Companion Tablet. This provides unlimited data per day, as well as other useful features you may need when travelling. The fee for hiring Travel Companion Tablet to be between 14.99 Euro and 20.00 Euro a day. If you rent the vehicle for more than 14 days, you'll only be charged for a maximum of 14 days and get to use the device for the duration of your rental, up to 28 days.

No, unfortunately we do not offer any electronic toll charging devices at this time.

Winter equipment to rent

I am concerned about the road conditions, do you offer all-weather tyres?
Yes, if the rental location you are hiring from is in an area where its illegal to drive without all-weather tyres at certain times of year, the vehicle will automatically be supplied with them and the fee will be included in your rental fee or contract.
We can also supply all-weather tyres for a fee. This will depend on where you are renting, but you can expect it to be between 12.00 Euro and 14.00 Euro a day. If you rent the vehicle for more than 10 days, you will only be charged for a maximum of 10 days and get to use the all-weather tyres for the duration of your rental, up to 28 days.
If any all-weather tyre is damaged, lost or stolen, you will have to pay for a replacement pair. You can expect this to range from around 250.00 Euro to 400.00 Euro on top of the hire fee. If you can show the damage or loss was not in any way your fault or due to your negligence, we will refund this cost to you.
Please give us at least 1 day’s notice if your rental does not automatically include all-weather tyres and you want to hire them.

I am going skiing, do you offer snow chains?
Yes, if the rental location you are hiring from is in an area where its illegal to drive without Snow Chains or all-weather tyres at certain times of year, the vehicle will automatically be supplied with snow chains and the fee will be included in your rental fee. You can ask not to have these but we recommend that you take either snow chains or all-weather tyres at these locations.
Snow chains are also available in some other rental locations. The fee for snow chains depends on where you are renting but you can expect it to be between 12.10 Euro and 15.00 Euro a day. If you rent the vehicle for more than 10 days, you will only be charged for a maximum of 10 days and get to use the snow chains for the duration of your rental, up to 28 days.
If any snow chain is damaged, lost or stolen, you will have to pay for a replacement pair. This is likely to cost between 150.00 Euro and 200.00 Euro on top of the hire fee. If you can show the damage or loss was not in any way your fault or due to your negligence, we will refund this cost to you.
We can not fit snow chains for you, and we can not arrange for them to be fitted.

I am have brought my own skis with me, do you rent ski racks?
Yes, some rental locations offer ski racks. You can expect to pay between 12.10 Euro and 15.00 Euro a day to rent a Ski Rack from us. If you rent the vehicle for more than 10 days, you will only be charged for a maximum of 10 days and get to use the ski rack for the duration of your rental, up to 28 days.
Ski racks can not be fitted to all our vehicles, so you may need to upgrade if you need one. This may increase the price of the vehicle and any excess you have to pay.
If the ski rack is damaged, lost or stolen, you will have to pay for a replacement. This is likely to cost between 150.00 Euro and 300.00 Euro on top of the hire fee. If you can show the damage or loss was not in any way your fault or due to your negligence, we will refund this cost to you.
Please give us at least 1 days notice if you want to hire a ski rack.

What countries am I allowed to take the vehicle to?
You are only allowed to use the vehicle in the following countries:
Germany, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Vatican City, Spain, France, Finland, the Netherlands, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Portugal, Republic of San Marino, Monaco, Sweden, Switzerland and Gibraltar. Vehicles are not authorised to be driven on any islands of the aforementioned countries. It is prohibited to take or transport the Vehicle to the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla from any point in Spain, between the Spanish mainland and the Islands (Balearic and/or Canary Islands) or between the Islands.

You are not allowed to use the vehicle by transporting it on board any kind of boat, train, lorry or plane(except with the Rental Companys express authorisation in writing).

Can I buy a product to allow me to drive in other countries?
No, regrettably, we do not offer any products which enable you to drive in other countries.

Rather than requiring customers to be 25 to rent, Avis at this location now rents to customers between the ages of 21-24.  An underage surcharge may apply and will automatically be applied to the reservation.

Additionally, the following restrictions also will apply for renters between the ages of 21-24: Rentals of luxury cars, mini-vans, 12-passenger vans, specialty cars, and SUVs will not be permitted.

Government Minimum Age Policy

• Minimum age 21 (no underage fee applies). 

The vehicle must be returned with a full tank of gas or there will be a charge for refueling.

Most locations offer a prepaid gas option which you can accept at the rental location.

If the vehicle is driven less than 125 kilometers there may be an additional refueling fee, unless a gas receipt is presented at time of return. The customer can check at the time of rental for complete details.

Roadside SafetyNet

• Taxes not included in the Estimated Total and will be applied at the time of rental
• Roadside SafetyNet (RSN) service is available at all participating Avis locations in the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico & U.S. Virgin Islands and New Zealand.
• The daily/weekly fee for the Avis Roadside SafetyNet Option is subject to change.
• RSN covers the cost for assistance with key replacement, lockouts, tire change service fee, jump starts and emergency fuel delivery (up to 3 gallons).
• Prohibited use of the vehicle will void this option.

Other Options

• Rental options not selected/offered on the avis.com website can not be modified online but have been calculated in the Estimated Total.
• Taxes not included in the Estimated Total and will be applied at the time of rental.

Avis Mobile Notifications is a standard rated subscription alert service providing time-sensitive mobile alerts and MMS to customers that include updates to the customer's current and upcoming rentals, and information about claims or inquiries relating to past rentals. By providing your phone number you agree to receive text messages, including text messages sent by an automatic telephone dialing system ("ATDS"), from us and our service partners regarding your rental. Messaging frequency varies based on customer journey. We will not use an ATDS to send you texts for marketing purposes unless we receive your prior express written consent. You are not required to provide consent in order to purchase any of our goods or services.

Opt-out
To Opt-Out of marketing text messages text "STOP" from your mobile device in response to a marketing text message. You can also manage your preferences to receive marketing text messages by updating your Avis profile at Avis.com. Simply select "No" from the SMS Notifications option in the communication preference section of your profile.
