Modalités et conditions

Couvertures facultatives

La souscription de la suppression de franchise perte/dommages exonère le locataire et les conducteurs supplémentaires autorisés de toute responsabilité en cas de dommages ou de perte du véhicule Avis, tant qu'ils remplissent les conditions générales figurant sur le dossier du document de location. Au moment de la location, le client doit signer de ses initiales pour indiquer qu'il accepte ou refuse la SFPD et les services en option. Le client doit signer la SFPD et les services en option au comptoir de location.
L’APD est assujettie aux taxes.

Si la SFPD n'est pas souscrite, le client est financièrement responsable de la valeur totale des :

  • Dommages de l'accident
  • Bris de vitres
  • Éléments volés (radio, batterie, etc.)
  • Vandalisme
  • Vol de la voiture

Exceptions :

Dans le Wisconsin, si l’APD n’est pas souscrite, le client est responsable de toutes les pertes et de tous les dommages du véhicule Avis dus à un accident, à une imprudence, ou à une négligence.

Dans l’État de l’Illinois, si la SFPD n’est pas souscrite, le client est responsable des types de dommages suivants, le montant de la responsabilité varie en fonction de la catégorie de voitures louées, allant de 20 000 $ à un maximum de 42 000 $ pour les locations :

  • Dommages de l'accident
  • Bris de vitres
  • Éléments volés (radio, batterie, etc.)
  • Vandalisme
  • Vol de la voiture

Annulation de la SFPD
Une fois la SFP souscrite, elle doit demeurer au contrat. Le client a la possibilité de retourner la voiture et de clôturer le contrat de location. Ceci peut cependant modifier le tarif du contrat de location et un tarif différent, éventuellement supérieur pourrait s'appliquer à la nouvelle location.

Exceptions :
Les clients louant un véhicule dans l’État de New York et souscrivant l’APD dans l’État de New York peuvent annuler ce service gratuitement, aux conditions suivantes :

  • La location doit être de deux jours ou plus.
  • L'annulation doit être effectuée dans les 24 premières heures de la location.
  • Le locataire effectif doit conduire la voiture à une succursale Avis pour inspection et signer un avis d'annulation.

Perte de jouissance
Le client peut également être responsable de la perte de revenu d’Avis, dans l’incapacité d’utiliser la voiture pendant les réparations ou de la récupérer en cas de vol, et devra rembourser Avis de ladite perte de jouissance.

Les couvertures d'assurance globale sont toujours susceptibles de changer. Veuillez vérifier au moment de la location.


Politiques en matière de carte de crédit

Au moment de la location, Avis accepte la plupart des cartes de crédit couramment acceptées.  Le nom du locataire doit figurer sur la carte de crédit.

Liste complète des cartes de crédit acceptées :  Carte de crédit Avis, American Express, AT&T Capital, Diner's Club Int'l, Discover, China UnionPay, JCB, MasterCard, et Visa.  Il est possible que certains établissements n'acceptent pas toutes les cartes de crédit indiquées.

 

Vous pouvez être soumis à une vérification de votre crédit ou devoir présenter des pièces d'identité supplémentaires.  Les pièces d’identité supplémentaires acceptées sont les suivantes :  Passeport ou visa de voyage en cours de validité, carte d'identité militaire, certificat de naissance, certificat de mariage, carte de guichet automatique avec le nom du client imprimé au recto de la carte, carte d'identité de soins de santé avec le nom du client imprimé au recto de la carte ou carte d'identité de société, de collège ou d’université avec photo.  Dans certains cas, vous devrez peut-être présenter une autre carte de crédit.

 

Avis demandera une autorisation de prélever sur votre compte les frais de location estimés, mais se réserve le droit, à sa seule discrétion, de demander une valeur supplémentaire, basée sur certains facteurs, lorsque nous le jugerons opportun.

  • Les locations peuvent nécessiter une retenue d'autorisation des frais de location estimés plus, 200,00 USD.
  • Si vous avez prépayé la location, la retenue sera de 250,00 USD.

Politiques en matière de carte de débit

Les succursales participantes accepteront une carte de débit, mais elle doit avoir un logo de traitement bancaire accepté (Visa, MasterCard, AMEX, Discover, etc.) au moment de la location si vous avez au moins 25 ans et que vous répondez aux exigences suivantes :

  • Le nom du locataire doit figurer sur la carte de débit.
  • Une carte de débit est acceptée comme identification du crédit pour les voitures économiques, compactes, intermédiaires, standards, pleine grandeur et les VUS standards.  La location de toute autre catégorie de véhicule exigera une carte de crédit reconnue.

  • Vous serez soumis à un contrôle du crédit pour confirmer votre solvabilité avant que le véhicule ne vous soit remis.  Si votre dossier de crédit est inaccessible avec Equifax, vous devrez lever la restriction avant votre location.  Lever la restriction ne garantit pas que vous serez en mesure de louer un véhicule puisque vous serez encore assujetti à une vérification de crédit.

Permis de conduire

Au moment de la prise en charge, le conducteur doit présenter un permis de conduire américain et une carte de crédit (ou de débit dans les succursales participantes) valides au nom du conducteur.  Si le permis de conduire n'a pas été émis aux États-Unis, vous devez présenter votre permis de conduire et, soit un passeport, soit une licence canadienne au nom du conducteur.

Restrictions

  • Les clients qui louent (par réservation, au guichet ou par vente incitative) une voiture de la série Signature d'Avis (tous les véhicules de catégorie X), avec un permis de conduire qui n'est pas américain et une adresse aux États-Unis pendant le processus de qualification, devront également présenter un passeport du même pays que celui du permis de conduire.

Public liability insurance is in accordance with the insurance laws of the country.  Customer may inquire at the time of rental for additional information of the benefits, conditions and acceptance.

Note: Some credit cards provide insurance coverage, with certain limitations, as a benefit of using the card to rent vehicles.  The customer is advised to contact the card issuer before the rental.  Any waiver must be discussed directly with the location upon arrival.


Additional Driver Policy

All additional drivers must be at least 25 years of age. The following are exempt from the additional driver fee but must meet all other driver requirements: the renter's employer or fellow employee when on company business and renting under a corporate account; the renter's spouse or domestic partner; the companion driver of a renter with a disability who has completed the non-licensed renter form; for insurance replacement rentals, company employees or family members who are designated on the insurance policy. All other additional drivers must complete and sign an additional driver form and present valid credit identification. A maximum of two additional drivers may complete a form.

For all US states other than NV and NY, the additional driver fee is $13 per day per driver with a maximum charge of $65 per driver. The fee in New York is $5 per day, $35 per week, per driver. The fee in Nevada is $11 per day per driver with a maximum of $55 per driver.


Additional Fees

  • A Frequent Traveler Program Surcharge or Excise Tax of up to $1.50 per day may be applied and will be assessed in connection with miles, points or credits earned pursuant to this reservation.
  • Extensions or late returns may result in additional charges.

Age Requirements

A customer renting a Luxury Car, Minivan, 12-Passenger Van, Full-Size SUV, Premium SUV, Standard Elite SUV or any vehicle in the Specialty/Signature Series/Cool Car categories must be at least 25 years old.

  • Exception: A customer with an acceptable corporate discount number can rent the above car classes at 21 years old without an underage fee.

For all other car classes, a customer presenting a major charge card must be at least 21 years old.  An underage surcharge of $27.00 per day will apply for renters 21-24 years old.

  • Exception: A customer presenting a major charge card with an acceptable corporate discount number can rent at 18 years old without an underage fee.

A customer presenting an acceptable bank debit card must be at least 25 years old.  (See Debit Card Policies for acceptable car groups and full details.)

  • Exception: A customer presenting an acceptable bank debit card with a corporate discount number can rent at 21 years old without an underage fee.

A customer presenting an Avis charge card, government-issued Visa/MasterCard or government travel/purchase orders can rent any car class at age 18 without an underage fee.


DMV Checks

At the time of rental, the renter or authorized driver may be subject to an electronic DMV check from the issuing state of the driver's license, or may be asked to sign a declaration attesting to specific criteria:

  • The renter/authorized driver has a valid license that is not currently suspended, expired, revoked, canceled or surrendered.
  • The renter/authorized driver has not, within the last 36 months had 1 or more convictions for reckless driving.
  • The renter/authorized driver has not, within the last 36 months had 1 or more convictions for driving under the influence (DUI), driving while intoxicated (DWI), or driving while alcohol impaired (DWAI).
  • The renter/authorized driver has not, within the last 36 months failed to report or leave the scene of an accident.
  • The renter/authorized driver has never been in possession of a stolen vehicle or used a vehicle in a crime.
  • The renter/authorized driver has not, within the last 24 months had 3 or more convictions for moving violations (including seat belt violations).
  • The renter/authorized driver has not, within the last 36 months had 3 or more accidents

Fuel Policy

Fuel Service Charge. Most rentals come with a full tank of fuel, but that is not always the case.

Where available, if permitted by law, if you drive less than 75 miles, you acknowledge that we will add a flat fee to the rental, the amount of which will be disclosed on the Rental Contract and at the counter prior to rental. You may avoid this charge at time of return by providing a receipt for fuel purchased at which time the flat fee will be reversed from your total rental charges. If this subparagraph (a) does not apply, there are three refueling options:

1) If you do not accept the fuel service option, where available, at the beginning of your rental, and you return the car with less fuel than was in it when you received it, as we determine in our sole discretion, we will charge you a fuel service charge at the applicable rate per-mile or rate per-gallon specified on the Rental Contract or disclosed at the location. The per-mile rate is used if you do not buy fuel during the rental. To calculate this amount, we multiply the number of miles driven, as shown on the car’s odometer (or provided by the vehicle's telematics device), times the per-mile rate shown on the Rental Contract. The per gallon rate is used if you buy fuel during the rental and provide us with a receipt on our request, but the tank is not as full when you return the car as when you received the car (by using the factory installed gauge, rounded down to the nearest 1/8 tank), times the per-gallon rate shown on the Rental Contract.

Although two methods are used for ease of calculation, the per mile and per-gallon rates produce approximately the same result. Some of our cars are equipped with onboard telematics which record the actual amounts of fuel in the gas tank. In the event your car has such a device, you will be charged for the actual amount of gasoline needed to fill the tank based on the reading of this device.

2) If you accept the fuel service option at the beginning of your rental, you will be charged as shown on the Rental Contract for that purchase and you will not pay us a fuel service charge. If you choose this option, you will not incur an additional fuel service charge, but you will not receive any credit for fuel left in the tank at the time of return.  If you accept the partial fuel service option at the beginning of your rental, you will be charged as shown on the Rental Contract for that purchase and you will pay a fuel service charge for any fuel not covered by the partial fuel service option. The per-gallon cost of the fuel service option will always be lower than the fuel service charge. The cost of refueling the car yourself at a local service station may be lower than the fuel service charge or the fuel service option. You acknowledge that the fuel service charge is not a retail sale of fuel.

3) You may avoid a fuel service charge if you return the car with the fuel tank as full as when you received it and, if requested by us, present a receipt for your fuel purchase. If you put fuel into the car, you must use the correct fuel (having the grade of gasoline stated on the car fuel information decal, or on-road diesel). Do not use ethanol fuel even if the car states that it is a flex-fuel vehicle.


Rate Requirements

Renters who have indicated a country of residence outside of the US will be required to present a non US issued drivers license and a non US issued passport OR an international airline ticket at the time of rental to qualify for the rate.


Rental Options

If you have added any of the following rental options to your reservations, terms and conditions may apply.

GPS:

  • Available at participating locations.
  • Minimum age is 25 but may vary by locations, underage surcharges may apply at certain locations.
  • Reliability of directions subject to timing of software implementation as well as that of which has been provided by the maker of the installed maps.
  • I (renter) acknowledge that the rental vehicle may be equipped with GPS (global positioning satellite system). I acknowledge that the satellite system may be limited by atmospheric or topographical conditions. I further acknowledge that the GPS unit may be rendered inoperative if it is tampered with or destroyed and or damaged in an accident or if the satellite systems are obstructed and inoperative.
  • Customer is responsible for all costs in the event of lost, stolen or damaged GPS unit and all of its components.
  • Renter agrees to release and hold Avis harmless for any GPS unit failures. 

Gas Service Option

  • Fees for the Gas Service Option are not included in the Estimated Total.
  • Fees are assessed and applied at the time of rental.
  • Fees vary by location and are determined by current market value of gasoline in surrounding area of rental location and the fuel tank size of rental vehicle.
  • Customer will receive no credit or refund for unused fuel left in tank at time of return.

Roadside Assistance

  • Taxes not included in the Estimated Total will be applied at the time of rental.
  • Roadside Assistance service is available at all participating locations in the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, & U.S. Virgin Islands and New Zealand.
  • Roadside Assistance covers the cost for assistance with key replacement, lockouts, tire change service fee, jump starts and emergency fuel delivery (up to 3 gallons).
  • Prohibited use of the vehicle will void this option.

SiriusXM®

  • Taxes not included in the Estimated Total will be applied at the time of rental.
  • Available at participating U.S. locations  

Other Options

Age Requirements

How old do I need to be to drive a rental vehicle?

To drive our vehicles, you - and all of your drivers - need to be at least 21 years old and have held a full, valid driving licence for at least 2 years at the start of your rental. For car groups A, B and E you - and all the authorized drivers - need to be at least 19 years old and have held a full, valid driving licence issued from at least 1 year.
A higher minimum age limit may apply to certain vehicles.

How do I know if there are minimum age restrictions on my rental?

When you book, you'll be told if there are any minimum age restrictions for the vehicle you request. If you're not sure, please check your booking confirmation email - or call the reservations team.

I'm under 25; do I need to pay a young driver surcharge?

If you - or any of your drivers - are under 25 when you pick up the vehicle, you will each have to pay a young driver surcharge. The cost for this will depend on where you're picking the vehicle up from - but you can expect it to be between EUR 21.39 (Vat included) and EUR 25.66 (Vat and airport/city surcharges included), per day, for each driver.
If you rent the vehicle for more than 15 days, you'll only be charged for a maximum of 15 days and get cover for the duration of your rental, up to 30 days.

Are there any maximum age restrictions?
No, so long as you hold a full, valid driving licence for at least 1 year.


Fuel Policy

Should I bring the vehicle back with a full tank of fuel?
Yes. The vehicle will normally be supplied with a full tank of fuel. You must return it to us with the same amount of fuel it had in it when you picked it up usually a full tank as shown on the factory-installed fuel gauge.  We recommend you fill up as close to the return location as you can on the return date, and keep the receipt to show us. If you do not return the vehicle with a full tank and you can not show us a receipt for fuel we will charge you.

Fuel Options

I plan to travel more than 120 kilometres, and want peace of mind, do you have a fuel option for me?
Yes, with Fuel Up Front you pay for a full tank of fuel, based on the manufacturers stated fuel tank capacity for your vehicle plus our costs of refuelling the vehicle for you. Then you just return the vehicle with whatever is left in the tank (even if its virtually empty) so long as the engine still runs.

How do I calculate the cost of Fuel Up Front?
Depending on where you are renting, we charge the average fuel price at the start of your rental period as stated on this EU fuel index http://ec.europa.eu/energy/en/statistics/weekly-oil-bulletin. However, you do not get a refund for any fuel you do not use.

Can I get Fuel up Front at any time?
No, if you want to take advantage of Fuel Up Front, you must ask for it during the booking process or when you pick up the vehicle.

I plan to travel less than 120 kilometres, do I still need to fill up?
Yes, often the fuel gauges stills look full so we ask you to fill up the tank near to the return location and show us a copy of the receipt.  If you do not have time to fill up the tank, or can not show us a receipt, we will apply EZ Fuel to cover our costs of refuelling the vehicle for you.

How much is EZ Fuel?
Depending on where you are renting, you pay of fixed fee of 15.00 Euro.  

What are my options if I do not return the vehicle full and have not bought Fuel up Front?
Pay on Return will apply if you have driven more than 120 kilometres and:

  • Do not buy Fuel Up Front
  • Do not return the vehicle with a full tank

How do I calculate the cost of Pay on Return?
You pay for fuel based on the factory-installed fuel gauge rounded down to the nearest eighth (1/8) of a tank. This is based on the manufacturers stated fuel tank capacity.
We recommend you to fill up as close to the return location as you can. Otherwise we charge the average fuel price at the end of the rental period for Italy as stated on this EU fuel index: http://ec.europa.eu/energy/observatory/oil/bulletin_en.htm. Included a surcharge per liter as indicated on your rental agreement.  If we have to refuel the vehicle, a refueling service fee of EUR 5.00 will be debited. This charge covers our cost of driving to the nearest petrol station at short notice and to restore the inconvenience of the potentially delaying the next customer's rental.

Electric Vehicles

How much battery charge should I return an electric vehicle with?

You must return the vehicle with at least a 70% battery charge, or the same % battery charge as it had at the time of pick-up.

What am i charged if I fail to return an electric vehicle with the required 70% battery charge, or the same % battery charge as it had at the time of pick-up?

We charge a fixed amount dependent on the battery life showing on the factory-installed battery gauge. This is the Pay on Return rate. the amounts charged are set out below:

One Way Rentals

Can I pick up the vehicle from one rental location and return it to another?
Yes, some rental locations let you collect the vehicle and any optional extras from one rental location and return them to another.


How much is the One-Way fee?
The price depends on the rental location. If you want to pick up the vehicle and return it to a different location in the same country, you can expect it to be between Euro 14.64 (VAT included) and Euro 1332.16 (VAT and airport/city surcharges included). If you want to pick up the vehicle in one country and drop it off in another country, you can expect it to be between Euro 576.45 (VAT included) and Euro 2622.95 (VAT and airport/city surcharges included).

 
How do I get a One-Way rental?
You can request a one-way rental when you book or you can ask for it when you get to the rental location.
If you asked for a one-way rental when you booked, the fee will be included in your rental price.

 
How much will it cost if I did not request a One-Way rental but return the vehicle to a different location?
You will be charged a one-way fee at the pay at location prices available on the day you return the vehicle.

No, regrettably, we do not currently offer specially adapted vehicles at this time.

I have small children, do you offer child seats?
Yes, we offer Infant seat, Baby seat, Child booster seat. A baby seat is typically suitable for a child from birth to 12 months old and weighing no more than 13 kilos. An infant seat is typically suitable for a child aged 9 months to 4 years old and weighing between 9 and 18 kilos. A booster seat is typically suitable for a child aged 4 to 11 years old and weighing between 15 and 36 kilos.
In some rental locations, we may arrange for a third party to fit the seat for you. But remember, it is always your responsibility to check the seat is fitted correctly before you drive away.

How much are your child seats?
The fee for renting a seat will depend on where you are renting but you can expect it to cost between Euro 11.59 (VAT included) and Euro 33.11 (VAT and airport/city surcharges included) a day. If you rent the vehicle for more than 3 days, you will only be charged for a maximum of 3 days and get to use the seat for the duration of your rental, up to 30 days.
If the seat is damaged, lost or stolen, you will have to pay for a replacement. This is likely to cost between Euro 30.50 (VAT included) and Euro 148.50 (VAT and airport/city surcharges included) on top of the hire fee. If you can show the damage or loss was not in any way your fault or due to your negligence, we will refund this cost to you.


I am not familiar with the area; can I rent a GPS (satellite navigation system)?
Yes, the fee for renting a GPS will depend on where you are renting but you can expect it to cost between Euro 16.65 (VAT included) and Euro 19.65 (VAT and airport/city surcharges included) a day. If you rent the vehicle for more than 10 days, you will only be charged for a maximum of 10 days and get to use the GPS for the duration of your rental, up to 30 days.
If the GPS is damaged, lost or stolen, you will have to pay for a replacement. This is likely to cost

 

  • Loss, Theft and damage Euro 100
  • charging cable Euro 25
  • support tool for GPS Euro 25.
    • Gps bag Euro 20 on top of the hire fee. If you can show the damage or loss was not in any way your fault or due to your negligence, we will refund this cost to you.

Can the Customer rent a device that offers satellite navigation, calls and Wi-Fi?
Yes. We propose a mobile device offering unlimited calls and data, GPS service and the possibility to use it as Wifi hotspot and much more.
The rental price of the Travel Companion (TCT) will depend on the rental office but is approximately between EUR 21.35 and EUR 25.62 (VAT and airport/city surcharge included) per day. If the Customer rents the vehicle for more than 20 days, he will be charged a maximum of 20 days and can use the device for the duration of the rental, up to 30 days.
In case of damage, theft or loss of the device, the Customer shall pay the costs as specified below:

  • USB Cable EUR 4,00
  • SmartPhone Cover EUR 15,00
  • Docking Station EUR 20,00

The above mentioned costs include VAT and are added to the cost of rental, as indicated on the contract. If the customer proves that the damages were not due to his/her responsibility or negligence, the relevant charged cost will be reimbursed.
Please note: in many Countries, Italy included, it is illegal to use mobile phones, tablet, and other devices while driving. It is the Customer's responsibility to drive safely and in compliance with the local applicable laws and regulations.The confirmation of the device is subject to availability at the time of collection of the vehicle.

I'm intending to drive along toll roads; do you offer a device to make this quicker and easier for me?
No, unfortunately we do not offer any electronic toll charging devices at this time.

 

Winter equipment to rent

I am concerned about the road conditions, do you offer all-weather tyres?
In some areas of Italy having Winter Tyres fitted or a set of Snow Chains on board when hiring a vehicle is recommended between November 15th and April 15th.
We have specific car groups equipped with winter tyres and price is included in the rate.
Please give us at least 2 hours notice if your rental does not automatically include all-weather tyres and you want to hire them. If you need them at shorter notice, please call the Reservations team.

I am going skiing, do you offer snow chains?
Yes, if the rental location you are hiring from is in an area where it is illegal to drive without Snow Chains or all-weather tyres at certain times of year, the vehicle will automatically be supplied with snow chains and the fee will be included in your rental fee. You can ask not to have these but we recommend that you take either snow chains or all-weather tyres at these locations.
Snow chains are also available in some other rental locations. The fee for snow chains depends on where you are renting but you can expect it to be Euro 8.19 (VAT and airport/city surcharges included) a day. If you rent the vehicle for more than 5 days, you will only be charged for a maximum of 5 days and get to use the snow chains for the duration of your rental, up to 30 days.
If any snow chain is damaged, lost or stolen, you will have to pay for a replacement pair. This is likely to cost between Euro 75.64 (VAT included) and Euro 118.22 (VAT and airport/city surcharges included) on top of the hire fee. If you can show the damage or loss was not in any way your fault or due to your negligence, we will refund this cost to you.
We can not fit snow chains for you, and we can not arrange for them to be fitted.
