Debit Card Policies
We accept Visa Debit cards and Mastercard Debit cards. We don¿t accept Maestro, Electron or any pre-paid cards, even if they carry the Visa or Mastercard logo.
Drivers License
Must be issued at least 12 months prior to rental.
Avis Greece can accept a National Driving License if the driver holds a valid driving license from: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland & United Kingdom.

The driving license must be issued:
1 year for groups A, B, C, D, F, G, K, N, O

Public Liability and Property Damage
Public liability insurance is in accordance with the insurance laws of the country. Customer may inquire at the time of rental for additional information of the benefits, conditions and acceptance.
Note: Some credit cards provide insurance coverage, with certain limitations, as a benefit of using the card to rent vehicles. The customer is advised to contact the card issuer before the rental. Any waiver must be discussed directly with the location upon arrival.
Additional Fees
After Hours Information:
If the renter wants to pick-up a car during out of office hours, he must request this at the time of reservation. The charge for out of hours service is EUR 23 excluding VAT.
Prestige Fleet
If the renter wants to pick-up a car during out of office hours, he must request this at the time of reservation. The charge for out of hours service is EUR 30 excluding VAT.
Additional Information
Outside Office Hours Fee For Avis Prestige Rentals
There is a 30.00 EUR fee excl. VAT for rentals outside office hours or when the location is closed.
Age Requirements
At this location the minimum age is 21 for all car groups, except for the following: minimum age is 25 for car groups L and P. A Young Driver fee will apply to drivers between the ages of 21 and 24. The Young Driver fee of 10.00 EUR per day per driver, with a maximum 10 day fee of 100.00 EUR per rental per driver. There is no upper age limit as long as there is a valid driving license.
For Avis Prestige renter and driver must be 21 years old for car group A, B and C and 25 years old for all other car groups.
Collecting and Returning Your Vehicle
Change of Return Location
The return of the car to a location different to the one of car pick up, is allowed with an extra charge.

Payment Options
A payment card (Visa, Euro/Master Card, Amex, Diners or Avis issued charge card) is required for all rentals. However, the renter doesn't need his or her credit card in order to make a booking online. We only request to know what type of credit card the renter is going to use at the actual time of rental.
Renter must use a payment card (credit or debit) at the time of rental in his or her own name.
The following cards are accepted forms of payment:
- Visa (Credit and Debit cards).
- MasterCard (Credit and Debit cards).
- American Express
- Discover
- Diners
- Avis issued charge cards
We don't accept Maestro, Electron, any pre-paid cards even if they carry the Visa or Mastercard logo- or any other cards not listed above.
CREDIT or DEBIT CARD HOLD: The estimated amount of the rental plus up to 500 EUR will be authorized against the renter's credit/debit card at the time of rental. In case the Super Cover is purchased or included, the authorization will be the estimated amount of the rental plus up to 150 EUR. This amount will no longer be available for your immediate use and may take up to 14 days, depending on your bank, to become available. We will not be responsible for any returned check(s) or insufficient fund charges or bank fees related to this process.

A payment card is required for all rentals as a guarantee. For car group H two payment cards must be submitted, one of which must be a credit one. Cash is not allowed.

Travel Into Other Countries
Cross border rental is possible under the following conditions:
- Booking must be made at the Contact Center of Avis Greece (tel: +30 210 6879800, e-mail: contact@avis.gr).
- Cross Border is only allowed in the following countries:
- Albania, Andorra, Cyprus, Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Luxembourg, Portugal, Denmark, Iceland, Malta, Romania, Turkey, Moldavia, Finland, Ireland, Montenegro, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, Israel , Morocco, Slovenia, Bulgaria, FYROM, Italy, Northern Ireland, Spain.
- Booking must be on request only for categories A, B, C, D, E, F, G, J, K, L, M & N. Not allowed for services: Avis Van Rental, Avis Prestige, Avis Flex.
- There must be a written approval by Avis Greece at the start of the rental (not just by the booking process).
- Payment is via Avis central account and/or credit card. The credit card is always required to guarantee the rental of a car, based on Avis General Rental Terms.
- There will be additional costs for issuing the Green Card, for which you can get informed when making the booking. If the rental is over 1 month, additional Green Card(s) must be issued at extra cost. This cost is charged to the customer.
- The renter is obliged to return the car to Greece.
- The driver must have the new type of driving license (in Latin characters).
The price for cross border rental from Greece to abroad includes:
- 300 km free per day

Popular optional extras to rent
I have small children, do you offer child seats?
Yes, we offer baby, infant, child and boostersseats. A baby seat is typically suitable for a child from birth to 12 months old and weighing no more than 13 kilos. An infant seat is typically suitable for a child aged 9 months to 4 years old and weighing between 9 and 18 kilos. A child seat is typically suitable for a child aged 4 to 11 years old and weighing between 15 and 36 kilos. A booster seat is typically suitable for a child aged 8 to 11 years old and weighing between 20 and 45 kilos.
In some rental locations, we may arrange for a third party to fit the seat for you. But remember, it is always your responsibility to check the seat is fitted correctly before you drive away.

How much are your child seats?
The fee for renting a seat will depend on the kind of seat and on where you’re renting but you can expect it to cost between 5 EUR and 12 EUR a day. If you rent the vehicle for more than 7 days, you’ll only be charged for a maximum of 7 days and get to use the seat for the duration of your rental, up to 30 days.
If the seat is damaged, lost or stolen, you will have to pay for a replacement. If you can show the damage or loss was not in any way your fault or due to your negligence, we will refund this cost to you.
I am not familiar with the area; can I rent a GPS (satellite navigation system)?
Yes, the fee for renting a GPS will depend on the renting location - please see our tariff conditions.If the GPS is damaged, lost or stolen, you will have to pay for a replacement. If you can show the damage or loss was not in any way your fault or due to your negligence, we will refund this cost to you.
Please note: In some countries, it is against the law to use a GPS that tells you where speed cameras are. It is illegal in France. If you rent a GPS from us, it won't give you speed camera information.
Do you offer an audio tour guide service on your GPS?
No, unfortunately we do not offer an audio tour guide service at this time.
I want to be able to access the internet anywhere I go, do you offer a solution?
Yes, we offer Mobile Wi-Fi devices. We provide this service on behalf of a third party so you will need to read and agree to separate terms and conditions with them. We'll give you these terms and conditions at the rental location.
Please note: In many countries, including France, it is illegal to drive while using a handheld mobile phone, tablet or other communications device. It is your responsibility to drive safely and according to the laws of the country you're driving in.
How much does Mobile Wi-Fi cost?
The fee for hiring mobile Wi-Fi will depend on where you are renting but you can expect it to be 10 EUR a day.
If the mobile Wi-Fi device is damaged, lost or stolen, you will have to pay for a replacement. This is likely to cost around 123 EUR on top of the hire fee. If you can show the damage or loss was not in any way your fault or due to your negligence, we will refund this cost to you.
If the sim card or any mobile Wi-Fi accessories are damaged, lost or stolen, you will have to pay for a replacement. This is likely to cost from 5 EUR to 15 EUR on top of the hire fee. If you can show the damage or loss was not in any way your fault or due to your negligence, we will refund this cost to you.
I am intending to drive along toll roads; do you offer a device to make this quicker and easier for me?
No, unfortunately we do not offer any electronic toll charging devices at this time.
Winter equipment to rent
I am concerned about the road conditions, do you offer all-weather tyres?
Yes, if the rental location you’re hiring from is in an area where it is illegal to drive without all-weather tyres at certain times of year, the vehicle will automatically be supplied with them and the fee will be included in your rental fee or contract.
You can also opt to book a vehicle equipped with all-weather tyres, and the fee will be included in your rental fee or contract.

I am going skiing, do you offer snow chains?
Yes. In most French mountainous municipalities (Alps, Corsica, Central mountain, Jura Mountains, Pyrenees, Vosges Mountains), it is mandatory in winter, by virtue of the Mountain law, to have snow chains in the boot of the vehicle, or to drive a vehicle fitted with winter tires. If your rental location is in a department where the Mountain law applies, the vehicle will be automatically equipped with it, and the price of your rental will automatically be increased with the cost of the corresponding option. If you decide not to subscribe to such option, and upon return of the vehicle we find that the snow chains have been used, you will be charged the corresponding price.
You can also opt to book a category of vehicle fitted with winter tires.
Snow chains may also be available in some other rental locations, please check with the rental location. The price of snow chains appears in our Tariff conditions.. If any snow chain is damaged, lost or stolen, you’ll have to pay for a replacement pair. If you can show the damage or loss was not in any way your fault or due to your negligence, we will refund this cost to you.
We can not fit snow chains for you, and we can not arrange for them to be fitted.

I have brought my own skis with me, do you rent ski racks?
Yes, some rental locations offer ski racks. You can expect to pay 8 EUR a day to rent a Ski Rack from us. If you rent the vehicle for more than 7 days, you will only be charged for a maximum of 7 days and get to use the ski rack for the duration of your rental, up to 30 days.
Ski racks can not be fitted to all our vehicles, so you may need to upgrade if you need one. This may increase the price of the vehicle and any excess you have to pay.
If the ski rack is damaged, lost or stolen, you will have to pay for a replacement. This is likely to cost 50 EUR on top of the hire fee. If you can show the damage or loss was not in any way your fault or due to your negligence, we will refund this cost to you.
Please give us at least 24 hours notice if you want to hire a ski rack.
